Hello there, fellow foodie. Welcome to On the Kob. I am so glad you are here.
My name is Debbie Kobrin, and I am genuinely excited to share with you my passion for cooking and the joy and connection it has brought into my life over the years.
So, who is Debbie?
My culinary heritage comes from South Africa, where food is the heartbeat of family life. They say the kitchen is the centre of the home, but I grew up slightly differently. In our house, it was the dining room table that was the true hub — the place where we gathered to share laughter, lively discussions, and the occasional spirited argument (because nothing brings a family together quite like a good row over a roast). But our mahogany table held more than conversation. It held passion, flavour, and a deep, genuine love of food.
Cooking is a journey
Cooking is not simply a matter of following recipes. It is an adventure that engages every single one of our senses. We use our hands, our eyes, our nose, and our instincts to create something wonderful. And who does not love an adventure — especially one that ends with compliments from friends and family about a chicken that took less than an hour to prepare?
That is where I come in. As your cooking guide, I am here to give you the skills and confidence to create delicious, impressive dishes that will delight everyone at your table. And for my fellow Jewish foodies — as a kosher specialist, I will show you how to elevate your cooking while keeping it entirely kosher.
Good food does not have to take all day
As a full-time professional and a mother, I know that time is precious. That is precisely why I believe that genuinely good food can be prepared efficiently, without sacrificing flavour — or your sanity. With a little organisation and a handful of clever shortcuts, a beautiful meal is never far away.
So let us put down the takeaway menus and rediscover the real joy of cooking together. Because when it comes to what you can create in your own kitchen, the sky truly is the limit.
Trust yourself. Have fun. And let us get cooking.
